Yeah, looks like either anime fans dont enjoy surrealist movies/maintings/writings or Art lovers look down on anime, if you liked any of the works by Hideaki Anno Kihachi Okamoto is a MUST i mean, his works are great but even HIDEAKI himself says he's the #1 fan of okamoto, i would recomend to watch The age Of the Assasins (mostly cause the humor/parody elements in EVA is extremely similar) The human bullet (narrative and simbology mixed with coming of age and despair of war) and MY absolute favorite of Japanese cinema... FORT GRAVEYARD, one of the most overlooked gems but still the perfect mix of both, humor & metaphor... a deconstruction into another deconstruccion inside a satire inside a patriotic war film inside a family comedy, idk it's just perfect and whats better it's also on youtube!

Oh, i am also getting into manga/comics in general so if you know some surreal artists it would be niiice, by the moment i have read Inio Asano (Very, very surreal, i recomend Oyasumi Punpun) Jiro matsumoto (A bit more erotic but really good too, i only have read juice citron or something like that) and my favorite but not very prolific, Shintaro Kago... Do you have MAL, Anime-planet or RateYourMusic? it would be nice to exchange some opinions or so :).

BTW im from south america (argentina) so my english it's extremely basic, sorry if some phrases are uninteligible cuz of my ugly grammar :P
