The Brave and Noble Ancient House of Lionheart
Heyo bare with me for this one cuz my brain refuses to stay silent and I honestly I've been meaning to share it
Ok so here's the deal with the Lionhearts. They're sorta known as the "knights" of the wizarding world but has started working in the shadows since 1900's.
In the 16th century, Holly Lionheart made this oath/binding magical contract (we'll get back this) so that her family would be useful for generations. Anyone related by blood is bound by duty to protect and fight for the greater good (ooo cheesy). They work with organizations like Wizengamot and the Ministry of Magic just to uphold justice but they are strictly loyal to family (other than being distrustful af, they know that there are some corrupt and incompetent wizards working there). Sometimes the Lionhearts will inflict their own justice if they have to.
They were well known back then and trusted by a lot of wizards but today they are almost unknown to everyone except for some members of the Ministry who still work with them.
Now back to this contract thing, at first it seemed like it was a good idea back in the day because everyone was doing something good and helping people, anyone who'd abandon this cause was a coward, right? A fool! Well today everyone is like that now because this has turned into a curse on them. The downside to this contract is that if you decide to abandon your duty you die instantly. It's like an unbreakable vow but you have yourself beheaded by an unknown and unseen force.
There are family members who feel proud of this duty while others are fearful, angry and sad about it.
Some fool themselves into thinking that this was an honor given to them. A lot of kids grow up not even knowing about the downside of the contract and some parents don't even have the heart to tell them.
Luckily, the people who get married into this family or adopted don't have to share this fate. They're completely safe unless they want to help.
So what now? This contract is a goddamn curse and has hurt a lot of people so why not break it already? Well, they can't because Holly fucking Lioheart just had to bury it somewhere and nobody knows where the hell it is. It's been decades already and still no sign of it. At first it seemed like the contract didn't exist, a myth to scare them but boy were they wrong when Magdalene and her husband saw their own kid get beheaded right in front of their eyes. So yeah definitely real. So unless this contract is found, nobody is getting out of it.
