Boycott Cal Big Give - posted by guest on 12th March 2020 04:11:41 AM
Tonight is the start of UC Berkeley’s annual fundraising drive, Cal Big Give, so we’re going to hit this school where it hurts: financially!
This year, Cal Big Give is asking supporters and donors to make posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with the hashtag #CalBigGive on a 24-hour blitz from 9PM March 11 to 9PM March 12th.
We are asking you all to post with the hashtags #CalBigGive and #NoCashForFash on these platforms as much as possible, so that when donors go on social media they will be made aware of UC Berkeley’s profitable collaboration with ICE, and so that the school administration knows that we are angry.
Instagram: Tag @UCBerkeley in the written post
Twitter: Tag @UCBerkeley
Facebook: Comment on Facebook posts by https://www.facebook.com/CalBigGive and https://www.facebook.com/UCBerkeley
If you were planning on donating to the school, consider
- Withholding your donation, and posting on social media that you are withholding your donation until Cal stops being complicit with ICE with the hashtags #CalBigGive and #NoCashForFash. Tag the UC Berkeley social media accounts.
- Donating to https://www.payusmoreucb.com/ instead, to support grad students who are striking for a cost of living adjustment: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-fund-for-striking-workers-at-ucb
- Donating at a different time, instead of during Cal Big Give, since the amount of money raised on this specific day is a metric the administration uses to attract donors and investors
- Reaching out directly to student groups which uphold immigrant & undocumented students with financial support instead of using the Cal Big Give Platform
