“Money doesn’t interest me”
This is a famous quote from Ton Roosendaal, the creator of NeoGeo and Blender
Ton Roosendaal is a big inspiration for me as he created a software that is now completely open source and free to use.
His philosophy of “money is a tool to enable you to make stuff” really makes sense.
You go to work, make money, and use that money for creation or for your hobbies.
The idea of creating a free and open source 3D modeling and animation software is amazing, there was nothing like blender in the market before it came out.
All the major players like Maya, Cinema 4D and ZBrush were all paid and expensive to hobbyists like me, individual creators and small businesses.
Blender was originally a tool created by Ton Roosendaal for NeoGeo as NeoGeo spent all their money on one computer and had none left for buying software, the tool later had its full release in 2002.
In its early days blender was mocked for what it was and its capabilities, but Ton and the blender foundation didn’t stop, they kept pushing and innovating even with all the hate.
Now if you look at blender its a full fledged 3D Modeling and Animation program.
Ton and the Blender Foundation worked for 18 years to create this masterpiece that is not getting adopted by many small businesses and of course…. broke teens like me, with no money.
Ton Roosendaal studied Industrial Design in Eindhoven, before founding NeoGeo, which was the biggest 3D animation studio in the Netherlands.
Ton Roosendaal is a big inspiration for me since he has done so much and created a software and a whole foundation that now helps people who don't want to spend 300usd or even more just to do what they like.
The fact that he as an individual founded the 6th largest 3d modeling software is inspiring to me.
Ton Roosendaal has been a big inspiration for me ever since I started using blender.
