-Took some notes on Ring Psychology and Storytelling in the Nyla vs Riho match illustrating how magical these two were. This is both kayfabe and non-kayfabe observations
-Roll-ups have worked for her before, so Riho goes for it around a minute into the match
-Riho goes for a cross body on the outside, reversed into a backbreaker on Nyla's knee and Nyla drives her back onto the apron. Riho has used this move successfully many times. Nyla studying her opponent
-Nyla goes for the table, Riho--even though she's hurting--through the power of fighting spirit, goes for a dropkick off the table: studying her opponent as Nyla has destroyed women with the table before. Also, a great sell by Nyla here to make the kick look so good. This is a dance. Takes two to tango.
-Nyla reverses the momentum and has full advantage again. Riho starts fighting back, as she punches Nyla, she grabs her back which is why, when she hits the Crucifix Bomb on Nyla, she can't roll it into a pin
-619 attempted from Riho, blocked. Nyla studying her opponent
-Nyla knee from the top destroying Riho. Non-chalant cover. They call this "protecting the finish", i.e. a better cover hypothetically wins it. Okada does this a lot in matches, for example. Let's dispel the notion Nyla doesn't know what she's doing, she knows exactly what she's doing.
-Nyla with the Avalanche Death Valley Driver. Once again she barely puts weight on Riho on the cover, so Riho kicks out
-Nyla goes for One Wing Angel to mock Kenny: "Look, I'm about to beat your mentee, friend, tag partner, your pick for champion, with your own damn move. It's no longer your division; it's mine"
...which Riho reverses into a Snap Dragon Suplex. Twice. The strength of Riho. The Fighting Spirit. Calling on the spirit of Kenny to beat Nyla. She won't let the mockery stand.
-Riho bleeding from the mouth, goes for a running knee strike, Nyla, though selling, gets out of the way, as it would inevitably have led to a defeat
-Riho dragon suplex, the strength of her at display. Middle of the ring. Nyla showing ring psychology as she sells and rolls slowly towards the corner so Riho can go for Top Rope Stomp. It's almost non-chalantly done.
-Nyla kicks out at 1. If she doesn't kick out right away, she might be done for.
-Fighting spirit also at display here, as she continues to sell and gingerly rolls near the other corner. Not knowing where she is. The kick out at 1 was a desperate attempt to stay alive in the match.
-Riho goes for two more Top Rope Stomps. Tanahashi logic at display here: I'm gonna do my top rope move multiple times to finish the match and make it a sure thing.
-Before Riho does the second one, Nyla is gesturing no, she senses the end is near. And since she doesn't have the strength to kick out, she reaches with her foot, in a last ditch attempt to reach the ropes, breaking up the 3 count.
-Riho gets up and once again goes for a corner knee strike: remember earlier in the match, it was reversed? Scouting by Nyla. Those knees have won Riho matches so It was her attempt to finish it again. The counter happens again. Reversed into a spear mid-flight and Nyla finishes it with her Beast Bomb.
-And, to add insult to injury, she walks over the defeated champion, goes backstage and mocks a dejected Kenny with a video game meme/line, "all your base are belong to us now, Kenny".
It's her yard, now.
