Term 1 Philosophy Mapped Assessment

Identify a range of theories used to explain human personality

Some theories would include the Maslow theory, the Freud theory and the Jung theory.

Compare key features of at least two theories

The Maslow theory determined by how your basic needs are met, the Freud theory determined by your childhood experience and the Jung theory determined by what archetypes you reflect.

Determined how these theories were developed

Maslow developed his theory by studying psychologically healthy individuals, Freud developed his theory through a series of childhood experience and Jung's theory was developed by perceiving and judging function where always used hand in hand with attitudes of extroversion and introversion.

Analyse the relationship between a theory and a views and values in its surrounding culture

When a theory is strong enough it will influence the views and values in that culture, for example Freud's deep research into psychoanalytic theory of development

Identify situations where theories of human personality are applied

Theories of human personality would be applied in situations such as education, through teaching practices, therapy and media through advertising.

Analyse the limits and ethical constraints associated with applications

Some ethical constraints with Freud's theory would be, if we applied it to everyone it would limit childhood.

Identify an alternative course of action to one theory mentioned above

An alternate to Jung's theory might be the reality we live in, that we don't actually reflect an archetype.

Formulate criteria for knowing whether a theory has been applied

To check if Freud's theory has been used on a person, simply ask if the person is being perceived through the unconscious development and childhood experiences.

Identify a number of critiques to major theories

Three critiques are feminist critiques, humanist critiques and critiques from within psychology.

Analyse a deficiencies within a theory when critiqued

If we looked at Freud's theory with feminist critiques we would find a gender bias, because male experiences are the only ones we have had in a long time.

Analyse the role of major theories within contemporary culture using critiques as a guide

In this day and age major theories do not have as much influence because there are multiple critiques that can easily find problems with these theories.
