<h1>( newspaper clipping ) </h1>
<i>january 2nd, 2015</i> — NEW ORLEANS LAW ENFORCEMENT urges holiday travelers to have a designated driver following a tragedy that struck in the early hours of yesterday morning. following new years festivities, priscilla and miguel ruiz had just picked their infant daughter up from the babysitter's house when they were struck head-on by a driver who was under the influence. all passengers of both vehicles had passed by the time first responders arrived on scene except for the infant, which many are calling the "new years miracle baby". the baby, identified as priscilla and miguel's daughter, reina ruiz, is now being cared for by her uncle, leonardo ramos. to quote ramos: "<b>priscilla and i lost our parents a few years ago, from different illnesses. when she married miguel and had reina... it felt like maybe we'd finally be a whole family again. miguel was an only child who had lost his parents, too... so... it just made sense. i don't know what i'm gonna do without her. reina and i just have each other now.</b>" the twenty-two year old has plans to take full custody of his niece and adds, "<b>please, don't drink and drive. [expletive], is it really so difficult to give the keys to someone else? this shouldn't have happened.</b>"

leo was born to a french-cajun woman and her mexican husband, which resulted in a household full of culture and flavor. they already had a daughter, priscilla, and the four of them were a noisy, messy, and excitable household. they went to mass whenever they were supposed to, ate dinner every night, and loved each other immensely. leo played soccer when leo was eighteen, they lost their father to a heart attack. two years later, their mother lost her life to breast cancer. then, it was just priscilla and leo against the world, and they relied on each other heavily. when priscilla met her husband, miguel, he fit into the family perfectly, familiar with their culture and with grief. the two married quickly, a whirlwind romance, and miguel felt like a brother to leo from the day they met. a year later, they were expecting a child, and when she was born, leo was an uncle — they were a small family, but they were growing! it was no longer just leo and priscilla. but, just a few months later, he lost priscilla and miguel after they were hit by a drunk driver. at just twenty-two, leo made the difficult decision to leave behind the life he could be living as a young twentysomething and raise reina (who he affectionately calls 'rei') like his own child. since then, five years have passed, and he's developed into a kind (if awkward) and hardworking gentleman and a protective but patient father. he finally has gotten the swing of having a kid and makes time to participate in his own hobbies between work and taking care of a five-year-old (but her finally being in kindergarten finally certainly helps)
