Backstory: Born in the Free City of Krakow to a blacksmith and a librarian with secret noble blood, Jadwiga grew up in a thriving commercial background, surrounded by many friends and family members. Her childhood was a time of happiness, and as a notably bright young girl she started her education well, both officially in school and unofficially, in her parents' quarters, learning of the glories of the past. This was only buoyed after her father's business expanded and he started taking advantage of the Duty Free customs of the city to expand into investments. She had even come to imagine going to college.

Alas, it was not to be. The turmoil of 1846 resulted in the collapse of her family's comfortable living status and the end of the Free State as well as the murder of dozens of her family and friends at the hands of the Habsburg authorities or angry peasants; her maternal uncle's side of the family was all but obliterated in Galicia. Her family soon moved to Western Russia or Congress Poland searching for work. Jadwiga quickly learned to run errands and work hard in order to support her family, especially a younger brother and sister.

But by the time she was 19 she was all alone in the world, traveling back to the Kingdom of Galicia within the Habsburg lands in order to obtain odd jobs as a craftswoman and weaver. All the while, bitterness clouded her heart at those she blames for destroying her family and permanently scattering the realm of her happy youth, driving her not just into the Polish nationalist romanticism of her parents but deeper into radicalism. At the age of 21 she moved into Vienna, taking up residence by renting in the Ringstrasse and holding her head high as a surprisingly poised and educated commoner.

She has remained there ever since except for a couple years , and currently has taken up her mother's job of librarian as a hobby while making ends meet through odd jobs.

But in 1863, news that her countrymen were revolting in Russia- accompanied by some reports she heard of family ties- led her to make the trip back from Vienna to Russia. There, she learned what it feels like to slice a scythe through something other than corn, what utter cold feels like, and what cutting human flesh is. She continued on in Southwestern Poland for months until- bowing to the inevitable- she snuck across the border just ahead of Russian clearing operations, returning to Vienna an even more hardened woman.

Jadwiga realizes she is well above optimal marriage age and is feeling greatly lonely, but she tries not to show it. Ultimately, she misses the sense of belonging she felt back in her youth with her family and in Russian Poland with her comrades and wants to find the "right person" to spend her life with and grow old.

But she also thirsts for revenge with an almost fervent hunger, seeing herself as something akin to a mortal Grim Reaper, happy to strike a blow against those who have torn her country apart. Especially if she blames them for having something to do with her family's fate.
